Value Of Music: Key4Life & the Power of the Suit

Here, at The BRIT Trust & BPI, we want to highlight the importance of the Value of Music, not just to the Economy and through its positive social impact, but also to our personal well-being. It’s only through looking at all the amazing benefits of music that we can really see the full value of music to us and those around us.

Key4life is the innovative and highly successful rehabilitative charity working with young offenders in London, Bristol and the South West, in which music plays an important role, and is one of the worthy causes supported by the BRIT Trust.

Within the first few weeks after being released, Key4Life will help their participants be ‘suited and booted’. For many young men this is their first suit and it is an amazing experience for them to choose what style they would like. The suit is bought in preparation for their work tasters, job interviews and future employment. Key4Life has found that ‘looking different is feeling different’ and the power of the suit is very important in terms of helping to build self-esteem, symbolising a new positive path as they move into the world of work, often for the first time.

At the Key4Life Charity Raceday at Wincanton Racecourse in October, Key4Life raised over £4,000 worth of suits for our participants, kindly donated by our generous guests. We were so delighted with the result and are looking forward to taking our participants to be ‘suited and booted’.

The cost of one suit for a Key4Life participant is £100, which includes a suit jacket, trousers, shirt, tie and shoes. If you would like to donate a suit to a young man on the Key4Life programme and help kick start their journey into the world of work, please click here:
