BRITs Apprentice: Sebastian Herridge-Cade – Digital Marketing Apprenitce @ BMG
The BRITs Apprentice Scheme is back, offering giving ten talented individuals the chance to kick-start their careers in the music industry thanks to this scheme created by the BPI and funded by money raised by the BRIT Awards. We caught up with one of our Apprentices, Sebastian, about his time with BMG.
What made you apply for this BRITs Apprentice role with BMG?
I applied for this BRIT’s role at BMG as I knew it was somewhere I could use my creative skills in the music industry and see how the behind the scene aspects of the business work.
Who else works in your team, and what are their roles?
My team consists of my manager James, who looks after the digital team for the Catalogue. James manages our workflow and meets with artists and bands to create a digital marketing strategy. Then my two other colleagues, along with myself, help market campaigns digitally and create content.
What is the first thing you do when you enter the office every morning?
The first thing I do is probably make a cuppa tea. Then I will check my emails and finish work due or start something new and think of something fresh to create content-wise for a campaign I’ll be working on.
What’s the most exciting project you’ve worked on so far?
One of the most exciting project I’ve worked on so far would be helping create assets for the label Trojan. I got to make assets for their socials in line with the 50th moon landing anniversary. I was able to be really creative with this task and experiment with lots of cool Trojan and Moon imagery.
What’s the most challenging task you’ve undertaken in your role?
The most challenging task I’ve undertaken in my role would be creating a presentation for my departments yearly release schedule. The hardest part of this wasn’t the creation but getting different assets and files in time for the deadline from the many different people involved who all work to different schedules.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned on your apprenticeship so far?
The most important thing I’ve learnt so far is to work on having good communication with the people you work with, so things go smoothly, and also to say if you don’t know something or need help.
What advice would you give someone hoping to take part in an apprenticeship?
I would say make sure you’re open to learning new approaches in work. Also, to be comfortable with not knowing certain aspects of the industry you are going into as that’s why you’re there.
What’s your next steps once you have completed your apprenticeship?
It would be great to stay on at my current workplace and label, but if new opportunities arise where I can grow and learn more, I’m open to this too.
